Authorised & Regulated by the CLG
Introduction
Since April 2002 it has been a legal requirement that all domestic replacement window and/or door installations are registered with Local Authority Building Control (LABC).
Installers either had to register their installations with LABC or they could self certify these installations with the only self-certification scheme available to them at the time.
In April 2006 the Government recognised the need that the industry required more than one scheme and two other organisations were granted licences, one of which was for Certass.
What is Certass?
Certass stands for Certification and Assessment and as already stated above, is one of the Government's licensed Competent Person Schemes.
On behalf of scheme members, Certass will:
- Register the installation electronically with the relevent Local Authority Building Control Office.
- Issue a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate to you. You will need this certificate should you decide to move house.
Why should i use a Certass Registered Company?
- Certass is user friendly for both the consumer and contractors.
- All contractors registered with Certass are required to be vetted by both Certass and their registered Insurance Provider.
- All contractors must provide you with the opportunity to Insurance back their guarantee. Therefore in the unlikely event that they should cease to trade, their guarantee would still be honoured by thier registered Insurance Provider.
- Replacement certificates are available free of charge, should the original become lost.
- By using a Certass registered contractor, it saves the householder having to go through their Local Authority Building Control office, which can be time consuming and expensive.
- Certificates are issued direct to the consumer, normally within 30 days of notification of the installation by the contractor.
What do i need to do next?
Absolutely nothing. We will ensure your installation is carried out to comply with the current Building Regulations and we will register your installation direct with Certass upon paid completion. You will then receive your "Building Regulation Compliance Certificate" direct from Certass within 30 days after installation. If your do not receive this Certificate within 6 weeks of completion please contact us.
